In August 2012, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo signed into law legislation that has an impact on the escape systems firefighters at risk of entrapment at elevations must carry. Section 27-a of the Labor Law requires that employers assess the risk of entrapment at elevations and provide equipment and training to address that particular risk.
Our department requires that all interior firefighters inspect and train on their personal escape system multiple times throughout the year. This is a video of training being given to one of our firefighters in order to effectively understand the procedures of bailing out a window in case a situation would warrant immediate evacuation. Thank you to Dwight for taking the video and Chief Croce from the Modena Fire & Rescue co. for forwarding it to us.
Note: the white rope is just a safety line, not the actual escape system that is built into out bunker pants. in a real life situation the bailout event would happen much faster and we train our firefighters to do so with a great sense of urgency.
