Come on people if this was your home on fire ,you don't want them to have to dig out a hydrant, the amount of time you could have saved the fire depatment...they could have more than likely saved more of your home....common sense and decentsey...don't wait for them to do ut

New Paltz Fire DepartmentWe are receiving several reports of people moving the barricades and driving over the bridge. THE ROADS ARE FLOODED AND ICED OVER. This is very dangerous and not to mention Illegal, Police department will be ticketing.

I fell through that ice on Christmas Day 6 years ago while saving my Lab who fell in. Scariest 10 minutes ever.

I love it when people who don't know the history of how bad flooding can be in this area think they know better.

Oh the memories of ice skating on the flats when I was a kid. Flooded, froze then drained underneath. We made ice jumps which usually resulted in wiping out. Spring floods I recall the family running the motorboat in the drainage ditches in those fields. Good times.

It certainly is an inconvenience but people moving the barricade and taking a risk to drive on the ice? Stupidity.

These pics don’t convey how bad the icing was on Friday. Large sections of the road beyond the bridge were covered by frozen water, who knows how deep.
